Two charged with assaulting off-duty PC

Two men have appeared before magistrates charged with assaulting an off- duty police officer in Canterbury city centre.

Gary Love, 28, and Phillip Love, 25, both of Vauxhall Road, are charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and affray.

The pair appeared in court on Tuesday and were remanded in custody until Monday.

The officer was treated at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for minor injuries and was able to return home the same day.

Officers were called to assist their colleague at 3.20pm on Sunday following an incident in the High Street.

An appeal has been made to anyone who witnessed the assault and has not spoken to police to contact Det Insp Emma Banks on 01227 868278.
