Kent produced two champions at the Aviva English Schools Track and Field Championships in Sheffield on Friday and Saturday.

Tadgh Healy, from Tonbridge, equalled his personal best to take the junior boys’ pole vault (3.65).

Ben Hopkins, of Blackheath and Bromley, improved his lifetime best to win the intermediate boys’ 400m hurdles (54.32).

The event, often dubbed the “Kid’s Olympics”, is one of the largest and most complex sporting contests in the calendar and is always a major test of nerves for the selected athletes.
