UFOs spotted over Broadstairs

A formation of orange glowing lights in the night sky over Broadstairs last Monday evening had people fearing UFOs might be overhead.

Alex Stuart, from Margate, was working late and while walking along The Vale saw a formation of four bright lights. He told KMFM Thanet they were: “Immaculately spaced, initially looking like four helicopters travelling at the same speed at about 400 feet. They passed heading north and a not a sound was heard. Every movement made was in sync.

“From that point on, individual unidentified and paired lights passed, same speed and height, heading in the same direction. In total, I would estimate 20-25 separate lights and one even appeared to break up partially with a slow descent from its left side.

"I was amazed as were several car drivers who stopped on Osborne Road and several home owners who were watching this unexplained event.”

Another listener who contacted KMFM Thanet was more certain about their origin. He believed they were Chinese lanterns released by a wedding party in The Ridgeway.

Earlier this year there was another UFO sighting over Margate which involved a bright light changing shape before moving off at speed.

Henry Smith and his friends were in Westbrook when they saw the light. “We stood in the garden for a while trying to come up with logical explanations of what it might have been,” he said.

“We concluded it wasn’t a spotlight from the ground – which we initially thought it was – as it was shining through the cloud, not on to it. It wasn’t a plane or a helicopter.

“It was stationary for a time, blending in with the cloud, and then would move off extremely fast.”
