Veterans Day - Historic Dockyard prepares to celebrate

Veterans of all ages will gather in Medway next month to recognise the service and sacrifices of those who have fought for their country.

More than 1,000 Veterans, ex-Dockyard staff and their guests have already pre-registered to attend Veterans Day and Kent TA100 from 10am on Saturday July, 5.

The event includes activities for all the family, bands and arena displays.

Nearly twenty separate displays and fun activities featuring the armed forces will be on offer throughout the day.

These will include drive-a-digger with the Royal Engineers, a Field Hospital display, the Royal Naval and Royal Marines Reserves, Mine Detecting, Army Divers, the Army Cadet Force Climbing Wall, an inflatable assault course and the Kent Messenger bouncy castle.

There will also be infantry displays with the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment and the food, culture and fearsome reputation of the Gurkhas from 36 Engineer Regiment.

Veterans Day and Kent TA100 is free to all veterans, former HM Dockyard staff and to serving members of the Armed Forces. There are also special offers for their guests.

The Historic Dockyard galleries and attractions are open as usual so the general public are very welcome to attend on the day.

Full details of all ticketing arrangements are available from The Historic Dockyard on 01634 823800 or on the website at www.thedockyard.co.uk.

The day will culminate in a separately ticketed traditional Beating Retreat and Ceremonial Sunset at 6pm featuring four bands led by the Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth.

Although the £10 seats are now sold-out, tickets are still available to purchase within other seating areas. Details can be obtained by calling 01634 823826.
