A shambolic display saw Welling slump to defeat in Blue Square South on Tuesday night at Thurrock.

Welling's performance was littered with mistakes and they eventually paid the price for their below-par display.

Errors by Andy Sambrook, Jeff Minton and new left-back Michael Haswell all set the tone but Thurrock wasted three glorious chances in the first 15 minutes.

Thurrock's wayward finishing did not last long, however, and they took the lead in the 22nd minute when Fola Orilonishe volleyed home at the far post.

It took Welling 33 minutes to have an attempt at goal but Loui Fazackerley's near-post shot was turned behind for a corner and the Wings forward seemed to injure himself in the process, eventually being replaced before half-time.

Welling levelled early in the second half when Ryan Johnson headed back a deep cross for Lee Clarke to covert but Thurrock went ahead again within two minutes when Matt Bodkin's free-kick evaded everyone, including keeper Charlie Mitten.

Leon Lalite beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper to put Thurrock 3-1 ahead before a goalkeeping error by Joe Woolley let in substitute Sam Hurrell to set up Jake Hobbs (pictured) as Welling got back into the game.

With 25 minutes to salvage a point, Welling should have bombarded the Thurrock goal, instead they failed to test the home side again.

* Bromley also suffered defeat as they went down 2-0 at home to Havant & Waterlooville.

The Lillywhites were beaten by two late goals from Manny Williams at Hayes Lane.
