Wings made to pay for defensive errors

Bath City 2 Welling 0

TWO defensive lapses proved Welling's downfall in the second of three successive away games on Saturday.

There was little to choose between the two sides but a lack of quality in the final third for the visitors did not help their cause.

Ohran Stewart and Amos Fowewa both had early chances for the Wings, who were not troubled in the opening 20 minutes.

But Bath took the lead in the 24th minute when a long clearance from keeper Paul Evans was helped on by Dave Gilroy and Scott Partridge lobbed Jamie Turner.

Stewart cleared off the line from Chris Holland before half-time but chances were few and far between.

The game's pivotal moment came six minutes into the second half when referee R. Martin tured downWelling's appeal for a penalty when Fowewa was clearly tripped by Justyn McKay.

Bath settled the contest with 19 minutes remaining when Partridge's cross sailed straight over Turner and thereafter neither side produced a goal-scoring opportunity.
