Witnesses to a fatal crash are being urged to come forward.

A man in his 70s died yesterday after the moped he was riding crashed with a lorry on the A228 at Paddock Wood.

Police were called to the Tonbridge-bound carriageway at 11.45am after the smash.

The moped rider was airlifted to a London Hospital, where he later died.

Now detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw the red lorry or black moped before the crash.

The road was closed between the B2015 Maidstone Road and Branbridges Road near Beltring for almost five hours.

Insp Martin Stevens, of the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "It is important that we speak to anyone with any information so that we are able to piece together the circumstances that led to this collision."

Witnesses are urged to phone PC Claire Russell-Thomas on 01622 798538.
