Woman driver, 37, dies after horror crash

A WOMAN has died in hospital after her car flipped over and crashed on the Thanet Way. The 37-year-old, who was alone in the car, was driving through the Chestfield Tunnel near Whitstable when the accident happened on Tuesday.

She is thought to have lost control of her white Peugeot 205 while overtaking and veered across the dual carriageway, hitting the tunnel wall before the car overturned.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews attended and found the woman, from Herne Bay, was unconscious with multiple injuries including broken legs and arms, a broken pelvis and chest and head injuries.

The Kent Air Ambulance was on the scene within 15 minutes and spent half an hour treating the driver before airlifting her to Kent and Canterbury hospital, where she underwent emergency abdominal surgery.

The woman, who has not yet been named, died overnight from her injuries.
