Woman in fatal crash fights for life

A WOMAN is today still fighting for her life after a serious crash in Gillingham yesterday which left another motorist dead.

The accident, involving a Jaguar and a BMW, happened on the A278 Hoath Way, at about 4pm.

Crash investigation teams are still trying to establish the cause of the accident, which happened in torrential rain.

The driver of the Jaguar was killed. His name has not yet been released but he is believed to be from the Gillingham area. His family has been informed.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s from Hunton near Maidstone, was trapped in her burning BMW and was rescued by emergency crews and two passing motorists who stopped to help.

She is being treated at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham. A hospital spokesman said: "The patient concerned is in a serious but stable condition at present."
