Wrong way driver, 74, closes A21

Police closed a busy dual carriageway for more than an hour after a 74-year-old man was spotted driving down it the WRONG WAY.

The incident happened at around 6pm yesterday on the A21 between Tonbridge and the Morleys roundabout.

A series of motorists called police to report a Peugeot 106 going northbound on the southbound carriageway.

Officers took safety measures to slow the traffic and stop the car but found the car had already stopped crashed into the central reservation.

The pensioner driving the car wasn’t injured - but was taken to hospital in Tunbridge Wells as a precaution.

Police closed the road so emergency services could deal with the incident and to allow for the car to be recovered.

It reopened shortly before 7.30pm.
