Charlton Athletic 2 – 0 Sunderland

CHARLTON ended their recent run of poor results with a 2-0 win against Sunderland at The Valley on Saturday.

The Addicks took the lead four minutes before the break when Danny Murphy capitalised on a mix-up involving Gary Breen and Nyron Nosworthy and fed Darren Bent who beat Sunderland goalkeeper Kelvin Davis.

And it was another defensive disaster that led to Charlton’s second goal four minutes after the break as Stephen Caldwell first sliced the ball onto his own post and then presented it to Darren Ambrose who had the simple task of tapping into the net.

Earlier, Liam Lawrence forced Dean Kiely into a smart save after 12 minutes with a shot from the edge of the area.

Charlton: Kiely, Young, Perry, Hreidarsson, Powell, Kishishev, Smertin (Hughes 67), Murphy, Ambrose, Thomas (El Karkouri 73), Bent (Bartlett 76).
Subs Not Used: Myhre, Rommedahl.
Attendance: 26,065.
