Angler Jackson lands coveted trophy

THE achievement of a British record catch was honoured at the Mid Kent Fisheries’ awards night.

A trophy was presented to Lee Jackson, of Chatham, who landed the record 61lb 7oz mirror carp at the fisheries’ Conningbrook Lake in October last year.

It was a feat particularly appreciated by Tim Paisley, one of the country’s top carp anglers, editor of Carp World and a founder of the Carp Society, who was the guest for the evening and presented the awards.

The winner of the Junior Specimen Cup was Leigh Jones, of Whitstable, for a 22lb 6oz grass carp, and the Junior Carp Cup went to Anthony Smith, of Ashford, who landed a 30lb 4oz mirror at Chilham.

The Ladies’ Cup went to Donna James, of Ashford, the Carp Cup, for the year’s best all-round carp angler, to Rob Langley, of Sittingbourne, and the Bailiffs Cup to Tim Hobday, of Appledore, while Paul Aylward, of Old Wives Lees, was Sunday League match champion, and Roger Coomes, of Ightham, was Clubman of the Year.
