FOUR hundred anglers from all over the UK will descend on Kent on Sunday for Europe’s biggest one day sea angling event.

They will be taking part in The Kent Classic and British Allcomers Sea Angling Championships, at Sheppey, which is being hosted for the 25th year by The Sheerness Steel Sea Angling Club.

Competitors are coming from as far away as the Isle of Skye in North West Scotland as well as some from Wales and there are also about 150 from the Island.

Secretary Alan Jeffrey said: "They will be fishing for £40,000 in cash and prizes and the anglers will stretch for more than four miles from Garrison Point in Sheerness to the end of the sea wall at Minster.

"The top prize is a new Hyundai Santa Fe four wheel drive car which will be won if an angler matches the sealed weight for the heaviest fish on the day."

There will also be a prize of £1,000 for the biggest round fish of the day which is being donated by Island Bait and Tackle of Halfway.

The £500 prize for the heaviest flat fish is being donated by Strudder’s Bait and Tackle of Sheerness and the £500 prize for the greatest number of fish caught is being donated by Regina MOT centre of Rushenden.

Total Sea Fishing magazine is sponsoring the pairs competition to the tune of £500.
