Armour's eye on home ground bout

CHATHAM boxer Johnny Armour says he has everything to lose and nothing to gain as he makes the second defence of his WBU Bantamweight title at Brentwood International on Saturday night.

Armour has already taken on and beaten Ampofo twice and needs to depose of the Bethnal Green fighter once and for all to get the fight he really wants - a unification bout in Kent.

But Armour says he is totally focused on the job at hand and says that there will be absolutely no mistakes this time. He said: "I feel a lot better than I did last time. I feel stronger and I haven't had to lose a lot of weight to make the weigh-in. Last time I had to lose five pounds in one session the day before the fight and it really took it out of me.

"I've nothing to gain from fighting Ampofo again. I've got the title I wanted and I've beaten him twice but if I need to put him away to prove that I'm the better man then I will.

"The only thing I can do is to prove to myself and all the people who criticised me after the last fight that I'm the champion."

But Armour isn't under-estimating the dangerous Ampofo but has been working hard with trainer Mark Roe and reckons he will have too much for the Bethnal Green man.

He said: "In the last fight I was bouncing around too much and because I was on the run my punches weren't going in as hard as they should have been.

But his time I'm going to stand my ground more, plant my feet and really let the punches go. I'm going to use my skill and brains to beat him and beat him well.

"He comes in with his head and can be dangerous but I know I can beat him again."

If Armour should come through for a third time he wants to face the WBA titleholder Johnny Bredahl in Kent, probably at Central Park.

"This fight is for Sky, but the next fight will be for me," he said. "I would love to fight Bredahl, especially in my own backyard. It would be a fabulous night for me and a great night for my fans."
