Nottingham Forest 4 Gillingham 0

JUNIOR AGOGO scored a hat-trick as Gillingham were well beaten at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The home side took the lead three minutes before half-time when Grant Holt's cross left Agogo with the simplest of tasks to head beyond debutant keeper Derek Stillie.

Agogo really should have made it two on the hour mark when he somehow managed to chip the ball over the top of an open goal after Nathan Tyson's initial effort had come back off the upright.

But he was given a chance to redeeem himself just a minute later and this time made no mistake, heading in Sammy Clingan's cross to make it 2-0.

Gillingham threw on David Graham and new loan signing Chris Dickson in a bid to get back into the game but the closest they came was a Nicky Southall effort that was beaten away by Forest keeper Paul Smith.

Agogo completed his hat-trick with 27 minutes to play after fine play by Tyson on the left-hand side.

And substitute Emile Sinclair added the fourth six minutes from time when he got on the end of Luke Chambers's pass.

Mick Docherty, the Gills joint caretaker manager, said: "We came to Forest with a plan to frustrate them and we did that quite well for the first 43 minutes.

"But when they scored just before the break it changed things and we got caught out trying to chase the game in the second half.

"Forest were good value for their win in the end but we need to pick ourselves up and look forward to the Leeds game."

Gillingham: Stille, Southall, Cox, Sodje, King, Brown (Dickson 64), Lomas, Crofts Bentley (Nowland 40), Armstrong (Graham 53), Facey.
Subs Not Used: Clohessy, Cogan.
Attendance: 16,330.
