Bent returns to The Valley

Marcus Bent has gone back to Charlton

Striker Marcus Bent is back at Charlton following his season-long loan with Premier League Wigan, despite the two clubs agreeing a £1 million fee while former manager Chris Hutchings was in charge.

His successor, Steve Bruce then rejected the chance to make the deal permanent because, he says, Bent is too similar in playing style to Emile Heskey.

Bent, 30, who is among Charlton's highest earners, finished the season as Wigan's seven-goal leading scorer. He cost the Addicks £2 million when they signed him from Everton in January, 2006.
