KENT’S leading wicket-taker for 2006, Danish-born paceman Amjad Khan, has been granted British citizenship.

The Home Office decision ends a seven-year wait for Khan, who was signed by Kent by former county coach John Wright following a recommendation from his former Derbyshire team-mate and then Denmark national coach Ole Mortensen.

Khan, 26, who is already approaching his 200-wicket milestone for Kent, will now meet the England and Wales Cricket Board’s qualification criteria and would be available to play for England.

He said: "Ever since I came to Kent in 1999 I have wanted to play for England and this confirmation of my eligibility is a real boost to my ambition."
