Shaunagh Brown rounded off her winter indoor season in style by winning the shot put competition in the Celtic Indoor Cup at Cardiff.

After being picked to represent England in the women’s under-20 competition, her throw of 14.09 metres was good enough to win the senior competition as well as the under-20 event.

The 18-year-old from Gillingham had thrown a personal best of 14.51m in the England Under-20 National Championships at Birmingham the previous weekend, and said: “I am very happy with the way my winter season has gone.

“I have thrown over 14 metres in every competition, which is a lot better than I was doing a year ago, and it shows that all my hard training in the cold weather this winter has paid off.”

Shaunagh, who competes for Blackheath & Bromley Harriers, will now start preparing for the outdoor season, where her main target will be to qualify for the European Under-20 Championships in Serbia in July.
