Charlton's Emma hoping it's third time lucky

CHARLTON'S Emma Coss is preparing to line up at the heart of the Charlton Women's FC defence when they face Everton in the FA Cup final on Bank Holiday Monday.

Coss, 25, from Barming, is hoping the Addicks lift the trophy at the third time of asking after defeats to Fulham and Arsenal in their two previous final appearances.

Charlton have beaten Everton twice already this season but Coss is not getting carried away.

She said: "Arsenal 3-0 in the semi-final to get here, so you never know. After previous disappointments in past finals we’re more determined than ever to win on Monday.

"But Everton have some quality young players and a lot of pace in the side so we won’t be underestimating them. We got to the final last year so I would say I’m excited more than nervous."

The match is being screened live on BBC 1 at 1pm giving Coss the chance to take the limelight if she can continue her impressive scoring record in knock-out competitions.

Having scored the winner in last season’s League Cup final, Coss has scored twice in three games in this year’s FA Cup run, including the winner in the semi-final win over Bristol Rovers.

"Some of my team mates are saying I’m just a glory hunter," she said with a laugh. "It just seems to be the important games when I score - I don’t know why."

Coss began playing at the age of four when she went along to a training session of her Dad’s junior boys team in her home town of Woking.

And she is guaranteed plenty of support on Monday, saying: "I’ve got quite a few friends coming up and my mum, dad and brother are all definitely going to be there. My mum and dad especially have always been very supportive so it will be great to have them there."

Charlton are running free transport from Maidstone’s Somerfield Hospital, leaving at 11am.
