TRUE to his word Gillingham boss Neale Cooper has moved quickly to strengthen his side with the loan signing of England youth international Moses Ashikodi.

Cooper announced he would step up his search for a striker after Darren Byfield was sent off in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe.

Ashikodi, 18, has been brought in from West Ham and is a former Millwall trainee who has represented his country at three different levels.

Cooper said: "I’m pleased we have been able to bring him in as there were quite a few clubs after him.

"He’s a decent player, he’s fit and he works hard. He knows where the goal is and his arrival gives us options up front.

"He’ll play a part in Tuesday's reserve game and if he does alright will have a chance of making the squad for Saturday."
