Cricket league lands sponsor--but needs more

THE KENT Cricket League are still searching for a major sponsor despite winning a precious three-year financial deal with Kentish cricket ball manufacturers Readers.

The Mereworth-based firm has put pen to paper on an agreement to back league clubs over the next three season, but the KCL management committee are still keen to replace their last major backers, Forester, who pulled out in 2001.

In announcing the Readers’ contract, league chairman Howard Smith said: “The Kent Cricket League are pleased to announce that Readers are continuing to sponsor the league.

“Over a long period of time Readers have sponsored the league by way of a generous discount on their cricket balls, but this year their backing has gone even further with both discount and financial sponsorship over the next three years.

“Readers have also indicated that they are happy to leave the way open for another major sponsor to step in with support and put their own name to the Kent Cricket League.

“The KCL management committee would like to express their appreciation to Readers who have given their support to the league during a difficult financial climate.”

The league are due to hold their annual meeting tonight, when it expects to ratify a return to one-day, 55-over cricket.
