DAME KELLY: receiving honorary degree
DAME KELLY: receiving honorary degree

KENT'S double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes will add bronze to her collection when she opens the innovative new sports building at the University of Kent at Medway, on Wednesday, November 16.

The new building, which houses facilities for students studying sport and fitness, is entirely clad in burnished bronze.

Having been built during the summer, it opened its doors to students for the first time last month.

After the opening, Dame Kelly will be given a guided tour of the building, which has excellent facilities for students studying the sociology of sport and sport therapies.

Later, she will add yet another accolade to her burgeoning collection, when she receives an honorary degree from the university at a special ceremony to be held in Rochester Cathedral.

Dame Kelly is being recognised for overcoming illness and injury to win top European, Commonwealth and World events as well as her two Olympic gold medals.

Also for setting up training camps for young female middle distance runners in both Spain and South Africa.
