Joe Martin has agreed a new two year deal with the Gills.

The left-back was been in negotiations with the League 1 side for some time but is expected to sign on the dotted line within days.

Martin was a virtual ever-present for Martin Allen’s side as they marched to the League 2 title last season.

He would have been a free agent next month and his signing will be a welcome relief to boss Allen, who rates the 24-year-old former Tottenham youth player highly.

“I must admit it’s been a concern,” said Allen.

“Joe has been on a break and I’ve also been away and there was no other problem other than dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s. I am delighted that he is about to sign.”

Martin has been with the Gills for the last two and a half years, making 97 appearances in total.
