Delight as promotion is confirmed

RAMSGATE will have plenty to celebrate when the club holds its annual awards presentation night at Southwood on Friday night. The Football Association confirmed on Wednesday that the Go Travel Kent League champions will be promoted to Ryman League Division One next season, together with county rivals Dover, Tonbridge, Ashford and Cray Wanderers. The decision follows two days of meetings at the FA, when they upheld appeals by Combined Counties League champions Walton Casuals and Wessex League runners-up Lymington and New Milton against the decision not to pass their grounds for promotion. It means they are also promoted and will join Ramsgate next season. A delighted Ramsgate chairman Richard Lawson said: "We are obviously very pleased and delighted with the news. The FA have done right by all the champions of the leagues. They could have stuck to the letter of the law, but that would have been very messy. "We wanted to be in the Ryman League, and are already talking to players about next season. The youngsters have done very well at this level, and they are the future of the club, but it's a bigger league, so we need a bigger squad and an increase in the playing budget is inevitable." Boss Jim Ward added: "I am already planning to talk to two players from London, but 96 per cent of my squad will still be youngsters. It's the best possible news the club could have had, and now we can all relax and enjoy ourselves." The decision still have to be ratified by the FA Leagues Committee who are due to meet next Thursday. *Listen to kmfm sports editor Simon Watts' speaking to Jim Ward about the news...
