WELLING manager Adrian Pennock has been handed a major boost for the new season after key duo Steve Perkins and Matt Bodkin agreed new deals.

The versatile Perkins, who has been earmarked for a midfield role this season, was out of contract at the end of last season but has now agreed to stay at Park View Road.

Bodkin had already agreed terms with the Wings had his pre-season trial with Gillingham not resulted into the offer of a full-time deal with the League 1 club.

Bodkin was invited back for a second week with the Gills but his subsequent release has seen him return to Welling.

Meanwhile, Pennock cast his eye over 20 trialists during a behind-closed doors friendly at Beckenham on Saturday.

The Wings, who did not use a member of the current first-team squad, lost the game 1-0.
