Disappointing away-day for Margate

Yeovil 2 Margate 1

A LATE penalty condemned Margate to defeat in Saturday’s Nationwide Conference game away to leaders Yeovil.

Skipper Graham Porter was adjudged to have fouled Nick Crittenden in the 74th minute and Crittenden himself got up to convert the spot kick.

Frenchman Ebdel El Kholti scored from Yeovil’s first attack of the game in the 19th minute when he headed home Crittenden’s cross but Lee Shearer deservedly levelled on the stroke of half time, climbing highest to meet Terry McFlynn’s free-kick.

With 11 minutes remaining Gate boss Chris Kinnear threw on new signing Adrian Clarke, who has been signed from Conference rivals Stevenage.

Clarke, an attacking midfielder, started his career at Arsenal where he was part of their FA Youth Cup-winning side. He has also previously played at Southend, Rotherham and Carlisle.

Kinnear said he was delighted with the signing adding: “Adrian will be a great addition to the squad, giving us other attacking options.”
