Early flurry of goals sinks Wings

MISSED PENALTY: Omari Coleman
MISSED PENALTY: Omari Coleman

Welling 0 Lewes 4

STRUGGLING Welling were blown away by three goals in the opening 10 minutes against Blue Square South leaders Lewes on Saturday.

The Wings regained some pride thereafter but the visitors comfortably bagged three points after a quick-fire opening.

Lewes were ahead inside two minutes when Jamie Turner touched Simon Wormull's shot onto the bar and Dale Binns set up former Welling striker Paul Booth to tap in from close range.

It was 2-0 after seven minutes when Omari Coleman lost possession cheaply and Booth unselfishly handed former Tonbridge striker Hamid Barr the simplest of chances.

Within three minutes Lewes had scored again with Booth once more the provider, squaring across the six yard box for Binns to convert.

New-look Welling gained some composure and finished the half strongly with Orlando Smith and striker Sam Gargan both going close.

Welling's penalty jinx struck again nine minutes after the break when Coleman's spot-kick was saved by keeper Steve Williams after Sonny Cobbs saw his close range effort handled.

Coleman and Gargan both fluffed simple chances before Smith nearly finished off a fine pice of individual skill.

Lewes claimed their fourth goal eight minutes from time when Coleman again lost possession and after Binns's shot had come back off the post, Gary Holloway had the easiest of tasks to score.
