FORMER Gillingham star Roland Edge is being wooed by Scottish Premier League club Hibernian and Division 2 Colchester.

Edge was released by Gillingham after rejecting new contract terms.

Because of the close proximity to the player's Gillingham home, Colchester appear favourites for his signature. Another factor is that ex-Gill Joe Dunne, a close friend of Edge's, has been appointed manager of Colchester’s under-17 side.

Edge is expected to make a decision by the end of the weekend.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Sheffield United, Gillingham's opening day opponents in the Nationwide League, Division 1, have been ordered by the Football Association to shut two sections of their Bramall Lane ground for the duration of the new campaign owing to crowd trouble last season.

Blocks G and H of the Laver Stand must stay shut until CCTV facilities have been improved. The club have also been handed a suspended £100,000 fine.

The punishment was imposed after United pleaded guilty to breaching rules over fans' behaviour at two games last season against city rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich.
