GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally has been in talks with former Sheffield United striker Neil Shipperley.

Shipperley, who has also played for Chelsea, Watford, Southampton and Crystal Palace, is a free agent, having been released by the Blades earlier this month and is considering his options.

Mr Scally confirmed that the Gills are interested in bringing the 32-year-old to Priestfield but that Shipperley is holding discussions with several clubs.

He said: "We are interested in him but we are not at the stage where we have made him an offer."

Manager Ronnie Jepson also confirmed that he would be interested in adding Shipperley to his squad.

He said: "Shipperley is a good player and I’m always interested in good players."
