Cody McDonald returns to the Gillingham team this weekend to face his former club.

McDonald ended a frustrating two years at Coventry City when he joined the Gills in the summer.

He was absent last week at Crawley through illness but with a full week of training behind him, Gills boss Martin Allen is ready to unleash him against his former employer.

“This I am sure is a game Cody is looking forward to,” said Allen.

“He has been very sharp in training over the last few weeks and he is definitely playing.”

McDonald had been due to start at Crawley, having been left frustrated in Gills’ previous two league matches, after being named on the bench.

“He had a stomach bug and nobody was more disappointed than Cody that he couldn’t play,” said Allen.

“He trains really hard and he had been waiting for an opportunity to go in and play. Cody McDonald will definitely play on Sunday.”
