Welling v Braintree

Welling manager Andy Ford has stated that their four-goal opening day victory will count for nothing if they fail to beat Braintree on Tuesday night.

The Wings raised a few eyebrows in Blue Square South with a 4-0 victory at Bath on Saturday.

But Ford knows it will count for little if they fail to build on their early success.

"I've been in football long enough to know that you have to enjoy your wins on the day but that's finished now," he said.

"We had a good trip back, everyone was in high spirits but our preparation for Braintree has already started.

"It won't be an easy game for us, Braintree lost their first game so they'll be keen to get going."

Saturday's hat-trick hero Ryan Martin is in line for his home debut, and Ford was delighted with his first appearance for the Wings.

"Ryan had an impact on the game," said Ford. "I've been interested in him since the end of last season.

"He had other clubs interested and has been on trial at Cheltenham but I've kept my interest known and we were able to bring him in last week."

Frankie Chappell is still suspended for the clash while Orlando Smith is unlikely to be involved as he played only an hour for the reserves in their 1-0 friendly win at Dover on Saturday.
