Gate win five minutes from time

MARGATE set up a home semi-final against Ashford in the BOSE Kent Senior Cup with a 2-1 victory against Folkestone Invicta at Cheriton Road.

The Gate were without a host of regulars and were further depleted when they lost centre-half Iain O'Connell after only 23 minutes with a suspected broken nose after an accidental clash with Scott Daniels.

By then they were already leading 1-0 thanks to a fourth minute strike from Akpo Sodje who was in the right place at the right time after Mark Munday's shot had come back out off home keeper Dave Wietecha.

Invicta eqaulised with 19 mintes remaining when James Virgo broke down the right before crossing to James Dryden, who stole a yard on his marker to fire home.

But with just five minutes left on the clock, home keeper Wietecha handled a backpass and from Terry McFlynn's chipped free kick, defender Lee Williams managed to get a foot to the ball to stab home.
