IT WAS a good day for Manchester City as Gillingham allowed them to stroll to a 3-1 win and Kevin Keegan announced that Peter Schmeichel would be a Blue next season.

In an entertaining first half Marlon King wrapped up the miss of the season competition with a lame attempt following a Carlo Nash howler.

City capitalised with a fine lob by Kevin Horlock on 20 minutes, although it looked suspiciously off-side.

Iffy Onuora rose highest to head an equaliser on 34 minutes, but City were ahead again within five minutes when Ali Bernarbia and Shaun Goater combined beautifully for a goal that was applauded in all four corners of the ground.

With both keepers pulling off several great saves the score remained the same until Marcus Browning’s poor and unnecessary back pass let in substitute Darren Huckerby to seal the game on 85 minutes.
