GILLINGHAM boss Stan Ternent is casting his net across the Channel as he aims to bolster the Gillingham squad ahead of a tough run-in.

Frenchman Mickael Citony is the latest player to be linked with the club, and he is keen to move to Priestfield.

The 24-year-old, who is seeking a move away from St Etienne, was speaking after reportedly joining the club on trial.

He said: "Gillingham are a very well structured club with good facilities and a nice stadium. I will see what the officials propose to me."

Citony had previously been expected to link up with Birmingham City, but instead is hoping for a crack at Championship football.

The striker has struggled for a place in the St Etienne team this campaign, after helping them gain promotion to the top flight last season.

Gills are short on fire power, with Darren Byfield off-form and Mama Sidibe sidelined with injury.

Both Iwan Roberts and Tommy Johnson are struggling to shake off minor injuries, while surprise package Darius Henderson is far from prolific.

Ternent will be making extra efforts to bring in talent to the club following the loan deal that saw Andy Hessenthaler move North to Hull City.

The three-month deal should free up some capital and allow the Gills boss to bring in fresh recruits.

Hessenthaler linked up with his former manager Peter Taylor after a difficult few months since resigning from the hot-seat.

Ternent has so far struggled to bring in much needed players, citing difficulties with clubs releasing players on-loan.

To date, Ternent's only signing has been keeper Paul Gallacher who joined on loan as cover for Steve Banks and Jason Brown.

Gills have a difficult month ahead. A trip to Watford on Saturday is followed by matches against Millwall, Wolves, West Ham and Wigan Athletic.
