Gills boss wants 'base' where players can relax

GILLINGHAM manager Mark Stimson wants Medway Council's help to turn the club's Beechings Cross training ground into their "base".

Stimson is keen to make their training ground a place where the players can relax and bond and hopes the council will agree to rent out some extra space to the club.

He said: "There's a room which we can use as a little function room and the club are trying their hardest to ask the council if they'll let us lease it to us because we do need a base at the training ground.

"We have the changing room facilities but we don’t have this room where can maybe put a TV in or table tennis and have a bit of food after training. At the moment the boys have training, get changed and then disappear.

"Then we can make that little base for ourselves. The players will get to know each other more and the characters will come out. That's important."
