Gills consider loan signing

GILLINGHAM boss Andy Hessenthaler has revealed that he is considering a loan signing - something he has steadfastly refused to make in the past.

He said: “We might need to go into the market and bring someone in on loan because we need another body up front. Mamady Sidibe looks tired and we've got Tommy Johnson suspended.

“We need more competition for places to make my job in selecting the side that bit harder. We're certainly looking around to try and do something.

“What this shows to me is the difference between our club and someone like Wigan who have just had a £2.25 million offer accepted by West Bromwich Albion for Jason Roberts.

“We couldn't afford 25 quid at the moment while Cardiff go and get Alan Lee from Rotherham for the best part of £1 million.”

Hessenthaler confessed he threatened his players at half time at Watford with an early Sunday morning showing of Saturday's video nasty unless they bucked up their ideas after a poor first half.

“I was disappointed with the defending and we had strong words at half time coupled with the threat of everyone coming in on Sunday to watch the match video.

“It wasn't just the defending, it was going forward because there wasn't enough quality. We couldn't get the ball to Paul Shaw and he might as well have come and sat with me in the dug-out. He's a footballer and we needed to get him into the game.

“The second half was better and to be fair our two goals came from Paul Shaw who found some space. But we showed decent character after falling behind so early on.

“Over the 90 minutes I felt a draw was a fair result. The biggest disappointment was our lack of quality in the final third and that's something we shall continue to work on in training.”
