Gills level at the break

GOAL: Bas Savage
GOAL: Bas Savage

Cheltenham Town 1 Gillingham 1

GILLINGHAM have been pegged back after a bright start at Cheltenham this afternoon and have also had Ian Cox sent off.

Gills went ahead after just six minutes when Bas Savage netted his first goal for the club after great work from Matt Jarvis.

Gills started well and both Jarvis and skipper Michael Flynn forced Cheltenham Shane Higgs into saves.

But the home side were back on terms on 15 minutes when John Melligan scored from a free-kick after Ian Cox had fouled Scott Brown.

Brown had a fantastic chance to put Cheltenham in front but his shot was saved at point-blank range by Dean Brill.

Higgs was called into action again midway through the half when he turned away a stinging volley from Andrew Crofts.

Gills suffered a blow on the stroke of half-time when Cox was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
