Gillingham continue their pre-season programme tonight with a visit to Kent League side Faversham.

Gills manager Mark Stimson is hoping his side can make more of an impact at Salters Lane than they did on Tuesday night at Priestfield against Stevenage.

“Hopefully we can create as many chances as we did and put a few in the back of the net and that will give the forward players confidence,” said Stimson.

“The players have to apply themselves in the right way. If they do then I’m sure we can get more than what we did against Stevenage.”

Stimson’s main concern is avoiding injuries and he’s hoping that Faversham play the game the right way.

He said: “You hope that when you go to teams lower than you that they respect you and don’t try and injure someone.

“I hope they respect Gillingham for turning up because if they don’t then we won’t go back again. When we play Ipswich and Birmingham we’ll be respecting them and won’t be flying in and hurting their players.

“We’ll try and be competitive but sometimes if you’re not a professional some people do get a little buzz out of maybe putting someone out for a couple of weeks and we don’t want that to happen.”

Stimson will continue to rest Mark McCammon after the striker picked up a slight hamstring injury during the trip to Spain.

McCammon had a hectic summer, which included play-off and international appearances and Stimson will go easy with his new acquisition.

Nicky Southall is also carrying a groin injury.

Stimson will take another look at trialists Leo Roget, Alistair John, Aiden Sainsbury and Alex Bailey and hasn’t ruled out including more new faces.
