Gillingham striker Dennis Oli has set himself high targets as he gears up for the new season.

The 24-year-old is delighted to be back in pre-season training and is confident that he can make a big impression on League 2.

“I’m looking for big things from myself as an individual and from us as a team and I just can’t wait for the season to begin,” he said.

“I always set myself targets and I think I’ll be playing up front this season. I’m looking to score quite a few goals. If I can get to about 10 or 15 by Christmas then that’s my target.”

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is currently targeting a sizeable striker who is likely to partner Simeon Jackson but Oli believes he is the man who could fill that role.

“I think I can do the job,” he said. “I am fairly big, good in the air and can hold the ball up. Hopefully I’ll get that chance.

“Towards the end of the season I played a lot up front with Jacko and I haven’t really played much with anyone else. I’m used to how he plays and we have a bit more understanding.”

Jackson and Oli would add plenty of pace to the attack and the pair are among the fastest at the club.

“We’re both really quick and if we’re back playing with each other then we’ll cause a lot of defenders problems,” said Oli.

“Off the mark Jacko is the fastest, he’s like a whippet, but if it goes longer then maybe I’ll get there.”
