Gills sweat on defenders' fitness

CHRIS HOPE: Neale Cooper is confident his skipper will recover in time

Gillingham v Barnsley

GILLINGHAM are hoping defenders Chris Hope and Brent Sancho will be passed fit for the League 1 clash against Barnsley at Priestfield tonight.

Hope had to have three stiches in a cut eye after being forced off during the defeat at Rotherham on Saturday.

Sancho only arrived in Rotherham on the day of the game and wasn't risked due to a hamstring strain picked up on international duty with Trinidad and Tobago.

Gills boss Neale Cooper said: "Hope should be okay but Sancho's hamstring is a bit tight. It's a blow as he did well for us at Brentford."

Cooper expects his team to respond at Barnsley after the disappointment of the 3-0 reverse at Millmoor.

"I'm hurt and Ronnie Jepson is hurt and the boys know we are hurt," said Cooper. "They'd better do something about it."
