Gills trio are fancy free today

GILLINGHAM trio Iffy Onuora, Mark Saunders and Marcus Browning are now open to offers. Their contracts at Priestfield ran out today. The three are bound to attract interest from other clubs with Onuora already being linked to QPR and Sheffield United.

With chairman Paul Scally eyeing new targets, including Brentford’s Lloyd Owusu, the three may be allowed to leave to make way for fresh faces. And Onuora, at least, claims no attempt has been made to resolve his contract issue since he returned from holiday.

“As it stands, my contract has now run out at Gillingham and having returned from holiday, my future still remains unresolved," he said. “This week I am on a coaching course attaining my FIFA badge, so I don’t expect the situation to change, although I am keen to sort out my future sooner rather than later as most Nationwide clubs are now beginning their pre-season training.

“I have already spoken to clubs in both Divisions 1 and 2 but I've also heard that Gillingham were keen to keep me. As it stands, I've had no contact with the chairman at Priestfield, so I will have to see what develops in the next couple of weeks.”

But Onuora is taking no chances with his future and is planning for when his playing days come to an end – whenever that might be.

He said: “Having helped coach the strikers at Gillingham last season, it was a role I really enjoyed, therefore taking my coaching badge has been a logical step for me and could well be of importance when I make my next career move. Yet at the forefront of my mind is to keep playing; I feel I have two good years still left in me and have proved I can still score goals, as my 12 goals last season proved.”

* The release of Gillingham's new kits, originally set for tomorrow, has had to be put back because the white third choice kit has yet to be delivered. The club were hoping to put the blue, red and white kits on sale on Tuesday but the third choice is still in production.
