KENT'S Lloyd Campbell has returned to the USA to start the second year of his golf scholarship in a mixed frame of mind, despite winning the club championship at Rochester & Cobham Park earlier in the month.

The teenager shot rounds of 68 and 70 to win the tournament by one shot from Jordan Gibb (68, 71), with Derek Pettett (74, 69) in third position.

However, Campbell was unable to make it a double success in August as he failed to recover from a disappointing opening round of 77 when finishing nine shots off the pace in the 36-hole Kent Youth Championships at Knole Park GC last Friday.

Nick Olson, from Faversham GC, won by one stroke from James Smith, of Sundridge Park, with Southern Valley GC’s Ricky Neil-Jones three shots further adrift in third.
