Greene confident of pocketing winner’s cheque

KENT snooker player Gerard Greene goes into the B&H Championships this weekend full of confidence after a wonderful showing at the LG Cup in Preston.

Greene, from Rainham, equalled his championship-best by reaching the quarter-finals in Preston and now has a provisional ranking of 59, up from the start of the season when he was ranked 63rd.

His good form has secured him a first round match against Steve Davis in the British Open after winning six straight matches in the qualifying rounds to make it through to the final stages at Telford.

Greene will take on John Gallagher in the B&H Championships in Mansfield on Saturday night and is confident he can pick up the £6,000 winner’s cheque.

He said: “I played well at Preston and I felt really good. It could have been so much better as well. I was 4-1 up on Jimmy Michie and missed a blue and he knocked in a 70, then a 98 and then another 70-odd and I was unlucky in the last so you could say I was robbed.

“I would have played Chris Small in the semi-finals and you never know after that. I've quite a tough draw in Mansfield but I'm confident I can do well.”
