Greene out to snooker ex-world champ

KENT snooker ace Gerard Greene will take on Ken Doherty in the second round of the LG Cup tomorrow.

Greene looked impressive during his convincing 5-0 win over Welshman Dominic Dale in the first round of the Preston tournament at the weekend and he will be hoping to carry that form into his clash with 1997 world champion Doherty.

Greene, from Rainham started the season ranked 38 and a win over sixth-ranked Doherty would be a massive boost for his chances of reaching the world’s top 16.

He is also scheduled to take on Doherty in the second round of the British Open, if he can first beat Ali Carter when the tournament begins in Brighton on November 8.
