AWARD HONOUR: Danny Murphy has played a vital role for Charlton this season

CHARLTON midfielder Danny Murphy has been named Barclays Player of the Month for September.

The 28-year-old has played an integral part in Alan Curbishley's side's rise to second in the Premiership table and scored both goals in the 2-1 win at West Bromwich Albion.

His consistent form last month was enough to win him this award but he missed out on a call-up to Sven-Goran Eriksson's England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Poland.

It is the third monthly award for the Addicks this season after striker Darren Bent and Curbsihley picked up the Player of the Month and Manager of the Month prizes in August.

Charlton are back in league action following the international break when they take on Fulham at The Valley on Monday in front of the live television cameras.
