Injury sidelines King until next season

MARLON KING: had just started to rediscover his best form

GILLINGHAM'S worst fears were confirmed today when joint top scorer Marlon King was ruled out for the rest of this season.

At first, it was thought the 22-year-old had sustained a minor knee injury at Derby on January 11. Since then various tests followed by a scan on his left knee hardened the suspicion that the striker faced a lengthy lay-off.

Club physiotherapist George Johnson said: "Marlon's cruciate has gone. This means lengthy rehabilitation. Years ago this kind of injury could have been career-threatening but not any more. The thing is that the injury must be allowed to settle down so he will not be rushed back."

The news is a colossal blow to the club as seven-goal King had just started to rediscover his best form and match fitness following six months in prison.
