Peter Taylor admits he was unsure about Danny Kedwell’s fitness levels.

The plan pre-match on Tuesday was to take Kedwell off after an hour against Notts County, having already ran himself ragged on Saturday against Preston.

But interim Gillingham boss Taylor needn’t have worried.

"He is a very hard-working lad," said Taylor, who's working with Kedwell for the first time.

"I was thinking about playing Akinfenwa a little bit because Danny works so hard and I thought ‘how long could he play’?

"I had on my mind Danny was going to play for an hour and then I would bring on Bayo.

"In the end, Danny was doing well and was very important for us.

"When they got their goal back (to make it 2-1), I didn’t consider it too much more.”
