SHOULD West Indies’ all-rounder Dwayne Bravo become half as popular with Kent supporters as John Shepherd and Carl Hooper did during their legendary stints at St Lawrence then he will also have proved a useful capture.

Fitness permitting, the 22-year-old from Trinidad will join Kent early in July having already signed a three month contract through to the end of the season.

Kent have delayed filing the player’s registration until Bravo finishes playing in the final Test against India in Jamaica on June 30, and only then once they receive a clean bill of health for him.

The county are content to play a waiting game because, if they were to register Bravo now and the player picked up an injury in the interim, new ECB regulations would prevent Kent from replacing him with an overseas locum.

Kent skipper Rob Key said: "Dwayne has been one of the West Indies’ unsung heroes for a couple of years now and, after Brian Lara, has become one of the first names on their team sheet.

"We’re replacing an all-rounder with an all-rounder and I’m confident he can bring some of that international experience to our club."

Bravo boasts a highest Test score of 113 and has hit two centuries in his 14 Tests to date. He has also picked up 32 Test wickets at an average of 35.71 and played 43 One-Day Internationals.
