Kent's Beckenham return abandoned as a draw

KENT'S top-of-the-table clash with leaders Warwickshire was abandoned as a draw with Kent 23 without loss in their second innings.

Earlier, a silly run out cost Kent a precious batting bonus point as they were dismissed for 297 in their first innings and made to bat again 205 behind.

Needing four to get their third batting bonus point for reaching 300, Andrew Symonds clipped the ball to deep backward point and set off for two, but Ben Trott's sluggish running between the wickets cost him his wicket as Ian Bell's throw beat him back to the non-striker's end.

The dismissal left Symonds high and dry on 156 not out and Kent three short of a bonus point.

A brief rain shower led to an early tea and a short delay before Kent started their second innings.

Kent made a better fist of it second time around, reaching 23 in just over an hour's play before the rain arrived just before 5pm.

The players duly shook hands on a draw, Warwickshire claiming 12 points to stay top, while Kent slip to third after taking just seven points from a below par display.
