Kent skipper Rob Key has been named as captain of the England Lions 12-man squad to face New Zealand in a three-day game from May 8 at the Rose Bowl.

The call up, that follows Key's unbeaten 178 for Kent against the Kiwis on Monday, means he will miss the county's LV Championship clash with Nottinghamshire that starts at Trent Bridge on May 7.

Nottinghamshire off-spinner Graeme Swann will also miss the four-day county game after also winning Lions inclusion, but there was no place for Kent spinner James Tredwell.

England Lions: Robert Key (Kent) (captain), Ravinder Bopara (Essex), Michael Carberry (Hampshire), Matthew Hoggard (Yorkshire), Steven Kirby (Gloucestershire), Matt Prior (Sussex), Graham Onions (Durham), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Owais Shah (Middlesex), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), Chris Tremlett (Hampshire), Luke Wright (Sussex).
